Polyplastics Co., Ltd. announces development of Fortron® 1140A66, a grade of PPS resin that enables significant reduction of chlorine contained in products. The new grade was developed in response to market demand for products that are dechlorinated and debrominated.
PPS resins satisfy the UL94V-0 flammability rating without the inclusion of flame retardants, so they are a material of choice for making connectors, switches, and many other electronic components. Fortron®, which contains very few ionic metallic impurities in products, is particularly ideal for use by fields with exacting electrical property requirements and to make products such as jigs used in semiconductor production and testing. There has been an increasingly strong trend in the past few years, particularly by European and American manufacturers of computers, mobile phones, game consoles, and other information terminals, to avoid materials that contain halogen-based flame retardants. Recently, some manufacturers are also beginning to control the amount of chlorine contained in products. In response to these customer needs, Polyplastics and resin manufacturer Kureha Corporation collaborated on development of Fortron® 1140A66. The new grade fuses improved polymerization technology and original compound technology for significant reduction of chlorine in products. Already, many Fortron® users have highly evaluated the new grade and expressed their intention to use it. Features of Fortron® 1140A66:
Along with halogen-free LCP resin Vectra® and the Duranex® XFR series, development of the new low-chlorinated PPS resin is positioned as a response to market demand for dechlorinated, debrominated products. It is Polyplastics’ intention to continue to be proactive in development and expansion of a product line that meets environmental needs. |
