In order to cater to heavy market demand, Polyplastics Co., Ltd (president: Noboru Goto, Head Office: Minato-ku Tokyo) has streamlined and improved administration efficiency at our
polymerization plant at Fuji, which manufactures the Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) VECTRA®, and the result of this has enabled us to expand polymerization capacities from 8,200 tons to
10,000 tons on an annual base. LCP is widely used in industrial fields as a high heat-resistant super engineering plastic mainly with electronic parts that are used in information and communication equipment, such as personal computers and mobile telephones, and the market for this has been enjoying rapid and continual growth. It is an indispensable leading-edge material that has already established its position in the market and that is suitable for use in ultra-compact electronic parts and mounted surfaces that use environmentally-friendly lead-free solder. The international LCP market reached a consumption rate of approximately 35,000 tons on a compound base in 2007 (of which eighty percent was in Asia.) Demand for information and communication equipment that utilizes LCP is expected to drop temporarily in the wake of the world financial crisis following the collapse of the Lehman Brothers in September of this year, particularly in Europe and North America, but high levels of potential growth are expected in China, India and other developing countries. It is therefore forecast that the market for LCP in Asia will continue to experience further growth in the mid-term. We at Polyplastics have systematically strengthened our polymerization capacities in order to cater to this increase in demand. We installed additional facilities with a production capacity of 3,000 tons per annum in May 2008 to increase our overall capacity to 8,200 tons per annum. At the same time, we also streamlined and improved the efficiency of the administration of our plant, including enhancing the efficiency of grade switchovers and line cleaning, and we set a target to improve productivity by an additional 1,800 tons per annum in order to achieve an annual polymerization capacity of 10,000 tons. In addition to this, we are also continuing with our investigations into the next capacity increase through effective facility investments. It is our full intention at Polyplastics to continue with our growth strategies in the LCP market and leave no stone unturned in our never-ending quest for gaining the trust of our customers through the stable provision of high performance and high quality products as the top manufacturer of LCP. |
